This project was done as part of the Master of Design Research Program at the National Institue of Fashion Technology, New Delhi, India and later carried forward as a part of the job opportunity project.

The Purpose

The study was conducted to explore global perspectives through various sources like news, information reports and understand how they align to form a trend/ trends. This is a prediction for 2018 based on the trend pattern observed from 2012-2017.

Providing a holistic pathway from culture to product, trend analysis empowers our industry to design and market innovative products that fit ever-changing consumer needs. Starting with scanning through the global happenings in the last five years, the team combined insights from trend reports, news articles, blog posts, company reports, etc. hailing from distinct backgrounds like politics, society, war, sports, entertainment, music, healthcare, technology, and many others.

Trend Mapping

All the data was collated and mapped on the working wall. Similar information was a cluster and was given key terms to understand the detailed data points.

Most relevant information was given priority points and was later color-coded to form a different emotion. 

Building Trends

Coming together insights gave inception to drivers and influencers which compelled the growth of certain emotions for the future. Drivers impact and determine the path, the world as a whole will take in the future corroborating with the resultant effects of the same.

And this results in the development of macro trends, an elaborate combination of factors that further impact various areas of industries and give direction for product development.

Identity creation driving towards individualism, beauty, with the feeling of transparency and the approach towards community building and resource generation on the other hand. This multiplicity of emotions, ideas, and approaches embodied to be applied to people, organizations and society as a whole, from economies and companies and the environment leading to consumerism and the quest for survival.
